How much does a repeat prescription cost online?

There are two separate costs: the GP consultation, which NewDoc bulk bills ($0 out of pocket for eligible Medicare patients), and the medicine itself at the pharmacy, where PBS-listed scripts are capped at $25.00 in 2026.

How much does a repeat prescription cost online?

Split it into the two things you actually pay for. First, the GP consultation that issues the script: NewDoc bulk bills this, so eligible Medicare cardholders pay $0 out of pocket. Second, the medicine at the pharmacy: for PBS-listed medicines the general co-payment is capped at $25.00 per script in 2026 (concession card holders pay a lower co-payment), while private, non-PBS medicines are priced by the pharmacy. eScripts carry no extra fee.

Cost one: the consultation

Every script legally requires a consultation with a registered prescriber. NewDoc bulk bills that consultation for eligible Medicare cardholders, so the visit itself costs $0 out of pocket; there is no separate script-writing fee. Patients without Medicare eligibility pay a private consultation fee instead.

Cost two: the medicine at the pharmacy

For medicines listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, the Australian Government subsidises the price and caps the general patient co-payment at $25.00 per script in 2026, with a lower cap for concession card holders. The current co-payment amounts are published at pbs.gov.au. Non-PBS medicines are priced by the pharmacy itself.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eScript cost extra?

No. The eScript token sent to your phone is part of the consultation, and pharmacies do not charge to dispense from an eScript versus a paper script.

What do concession card holders pay for medicines?

PBS medicines have a lower concessional co-payment for holders of concession cards such as the Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card. The current concessional amount is published on the PBS website, and pharmacies apply it automatically when your card is on file.

What if my medicine is not on the PBS?

Non-PBS (private) medicines are priced by the individual pharmacy, so costs vary and it can be worth calling two or three pharmacies. The GP consultation that issues the script is still bulk billed for eligible Medicare patients.
