What NewDoc is
NewDoc exists for the moments when getting to a GP is the hard part: you can't take time off work, you're unwell at home, your regular practice is booked out for weeks, or there simply isn't a bulk billing clinic near you. Instead of waiting, you book a time online and a GP calls you by video or phone.
In the consult, the GP assesses you the same way they would in a practice room: history, symptoms, medications, and what happens next. Where it's clinically appropriate, that can include an eScript sent to your phone, a medical certificate or specialist referral emailed to you, or pathology and imaging referrals. And when telehealth is not the right setting for your situation, the GP says so and points you to the right in-person care instead.
What makes NewDoc different
Bulk billed consults
NewDoc bills Medicare directly, so eligible Medicare patients pay $0 out of pocket. No gap, no surprise invoice after the call.
Fellowship-qualified specialist GPs
Every consult is with an AHPRA-registered, fellowship-qualified specialist GP, never a nurse practitioner or a junior doctor. Fellowship is the floor.
Telehealth only, Australia-wide
NewDoc has no physical clinics. Consults happen by video or phone, so where you live doesn't decide how quickly you see a GP.
Same-day, 7 days a week
Appointments run every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays, with same-day times usually available.
How bulk billing works at NewDoc
Bulk billing means NewDoc bills Medicare directly for your consult instead of charging you. If you hold a valid Medicare card and your consult is eligible, there is nothing to pay: no upfront payment and no gap fee.
If you're not eligible for Medicare, for example as an overseas visitor, you can still see a NewDoc GP for a private consultation fee of $69.95. Full details, including what's covered, are on the pricing page.
Our doctors
Every NewDoc consult is with an AHPRA-registered, fellowship-qualified specialist GP. Fellowship is the post-graduate standard for general practice in Australia, and NewDoc holds that line for every doctor on the roster.
The clinical side of NewDoc is led by Dr Jason Yu FRACGP, Chief Medical Officer, who sets the clinical protocols and medically reviews every clinical page on this site before it's published. How that review works is set out in the NewDoc Editorial Policy.
Who's behind NewDoc
NewDoc is run by NewDoc Pty Ltd (ABN 95 686 031 318), an Australian company. It is led by Dr Tom Lee, CEO and Co-Founder, alongside Dr Jason Yu FRACGP as Chief Medical Officer. NewDoc is telehealth only: there are no physical clinics, and the service covers all of Australia.
NewDoc also publishes original research from its own population-level consult data, like When Australia Calls in Sick, an analysis of 18,629 winter consults. You'll find all of it on the research page.
